Blessings on International Women’s Day 2021

Today is International Women’s Day. This is a very important day. The theme of IWD 2021 is ‘Choose to Challenge’ The fact that we still have to speak in terms of equality for women in 2021 is shocking. But sadly we do.

The United Nations forum for Women’s Rights states that ‘Women of the world want and deserve an equal future free from stigma, stereotypes and violence; a future that’s sustainable, peaceful, with equal rights and opportunities for all. To get us there, the world needs women at every table where decisions are being made.’ Let us pray for a world where this dream is made a reality.

To help us reflect today for the fifth day of our Novena – on International Women’s Day – we are celebrating the Mass of the Blessed Virgin Mary who was blessed among women. In our faith Mary is the premier example of womanhood – of courage, of wisdom, of compassion, of care, of vision, of leadership.
