Pentecost Novena to the Holy Spirit – Day 2

Today our meditation is the wonderful invocatory hymn written by the 15th century mystic Bianco di Siena: “Come down, O love divine” It invites us to meditate on the Spirit as the Divine Love between the Father and the Son and to see the path of humility as our way into His presence in our lives.
Pray the hymn slowly and gently making its sentiments your own and praying on behalf of the whole world.

Come down O love divine
Seek Thou this soul of mine
And visit it with Thine own ardour glowing
O Comforter, draw near
Within my heart appear
And kindle it, Thy holy flame bestowing.
O let it freely burn
Till earthly passions turn
To dust and ashes, in its heat consuming
And let Thy glorious light
Shine ever on my sight
And clothe me round, the while my path illuming.
Let holy charity
Mine outward vesture be
And lowliness become mine inner clothing
True lowliness of heart
Which takes the humbler part
And o’er its own shortcomings weeps with loathing
And so the yearning strong
With which the soul will long
Shall far outpass the power of human telling
For none can guess its grace
Till they become the place
Wherein the Holy Spirit makes His dwelling

We pray:
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth.
Let us pray;
O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever rejoice in His consolations, Through Christ Our Lord, Amen.
Our Lady Immaculate Spouse of the Holy Spirit, pray for us +
