The candles are lit…
This time of year the number of candles lit in churches increases exponentially as the state exams loom. It’s a simple and heartfelt act to intentionally light a candle for some one. The words ‘I lit a candle for you’ has encouraged many of us as we faced life’s challenges and difficulties. Simple acts and simple words often hold deep meaning and value.
As students all over the country add the final polish to their exam preparation we pray that they will feel the support of all those candles. We pray also that the Holy Spirit will guide them so that they can do their best.
Be assured of the prayers of the Capuchin Friars as you take on this great achievement. For centuries both St Anthony of Padua and St Joseph of Cupertino (both Franciscan saints) have been called upon to help students through exams. The prayer to Saint Joseph of Cupertino has helped many of us through difficult exams. So as part of your final preparation, why not take a few moments to close the books, close your eyes, take a breath and pray…
O St Jospeh of Cupertino, who by praying at your examinations were asked only the questions you knew the answers to. I pray now that I too may be granted a similar labour, in return I promise to make your name known and loved. Amen.
Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory be…
Best of luck everyone!
